Learning Objectives

  • To be able to explain the general properties of magnetic fields and how we know they exist.
  • To be able to calculate the force on a charge moving in a magnetic field.
  • To have some intuitive understanding of why magnetic forces on charges exist.
  • To be able to explain the magnetic field of a set of Helmholtz coils in the Helmholtz and anti-Helmholtz configuration.
